What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)?
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), a religious formation methodology for children ages 3-12, unites adults and children in a common religious experience.  Based on Montessori principles of education, CGS was developed in Rome in 1954 by a Catholic Hebrew and Scripture scholar, Sofia Cavaletti.  Children learn in a specially prepared environment called the Atrium, a sacred, “hands on” space where catechists and children hear, ponder and celebrate the most essential mysteries of our faith as revealed in Sacred Scripture and Liturgy. Catechists in the Atrium receive specific training in the methodology. Materials are carefully prepared to foster in children the inherent longing for a relationship with God and curiosity about the elements of our faith. (archatl.org)
We are very excited to announce that Good Shepherd has opened both a Level I (ages 3-6) permanent atrium, AND a Level II (ages 6+) mobile atrium as of Fall 2022.  CGS meets for 1.5 hours each session, throughout the school year. You can choose a CGS group meeting on Sunday morning, after the Mass you usually attend, or on Wednesdays after school.
Sunday: 8:15, 10:15, 12:15, 2:15

Wednesday: 4:00-5:30pm

As our atria grow and flourish, we are always looking for volunteers to help assist during atria sessions and volunteers to join us on material-making days. To learn more about registering your child(ren) in the CGS program, or to help with materials, please contact Elementary Faith Formation Coordinator, Vicki Carney at [email protected]
CGS has session options on Sundays after morning Masses, and Wednesday afternoons.
