The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion performs a great service to the Church, by distributing Holy Communion to God’s people on those occasions where there are insufficient numbers of priests and deacons to distribute Holy Communion to the people present at Mass. It is an honor and a privilege to serve the Church in this capacity and, of course, requires careful preparation on the part of the Extraordinary Minister. Training and preparation is either done by the pastor, or commonly, by an individual that he designates for that task.

Your willingness to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, reflects not only a response to your Baptismal call to serve the people of God, but a commitment to Christ as you share in the preaching, teaching and leading aspects of the church. You offer the Eucharist, recognize the Body of Christ in those to whom you offer Eucharist and ultimately you act as the Body of Christ by fully participating in the life of the parish and the wider community. Your willingness to commit to a monthly schedule, to prepare properly for your service and to arrive on time dressed appropriately for your assigned Mass, further reflects that commitment.
